Anna Maria Testaverde investigates Italian and European dynastic performance with reference to the relations between the material production of spectacle, figurative expression, and political, ideological and economic history during the 15th-17th centuries. She is interested in the study of the scientific, mechanical contributions of artistic, engineering and military knowledge in stage technologies between the 15th and 19th centuries. She has investigated the techniques of dramaturgical composition of the stage writing of professional actors (Commedia dell’Arte) in relation with the semi-professional dramaturgy of the academy amateurs in the 17th-18th centuries. She is currently working on the analysis of the processes of identity concerning the migration of the Italian theatre culture in the United States from the mid-nineteenth to the twentieth century. Actually is member of the Research Project PRIN Patronage of Arts and Letters 1590-1620: Rome, Siena, Milan, Turin andRepertorioepistolare del Cinquecento. Teoria, lingua, pratiche di un genere (Bibbiena, Della Casa, Bernardo e Torquato Tasso, Marino).She has been member of the International ResearchProject between the University of Bergamo and Sorbonne-Paris IV (Paradigmes de la créativité: faire peur aux limites du visible).She has held seminars and conferences in Italy and abroad (University of Toronto, Victoria College, Folger Institute in Washington DC, Yale University, Washington, The Renaissance Society of America; Georgetown University, Washington DC; , the Louvre Museum in Paris). She is the author of exhibition catalogs and a member of the Scientific Committees(The Bible Museum, Washington D.C.;The Art Institute of Chicago and The Detroit Institute of Arts; Firenze, Palazzo Medici Riccardi; Firenze, Casa Buonarroti). She is author of scientific studies published by international publishers (Einaudi, Olschki, Ashgate, L’Harmattan, Yale University press.ArtesGraficas).From 2008 she directs with Siro Ferrone The Comedy of Art.
