PhD in History of Early Modern Art from Universidade Aberta in 2006 with the thesis “The Art of Portraiture in Portugal – between the end of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance” (Assírio & Alvim, 2010; Culture Prize of the Geographical Society of Lisbon / National Academy of Fine Arts, Academy of Sciences and Portuguese Academy of History in 2012). Since 1998, he has taught several courses in History of Art and Museology in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Cycles of History, domain Heritage Studies (History of Art area) at Universidade Aberta.
He is a researcher of the Art History Institute of the Faculdade de CiênciasSociais e Humanas da Universidade NOVA de Lisboa and of the Associated Laboratory IN2PAST (Associate Laboratory for Research and Innovation in Heritage, Arts, Sustainability and Territory). He is currently Co-Investigator in charge of the R&D project “ROADMAP – Research On Antonio De Holanda Miniatures Artistic Production” [PTDC/ART-HIS/0985/2021] approved for funding by the Foundation for Science and Technology of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education – Government of Portugal.
He has been developing several research projects in the field of Renaissance and Baroque art and Lisbon Studies, participating in several national and international scientific meetings and publishing several articles, books and chapters of books on the subject. He is a Corresponding Academic of the Portuguese Academy of History. He is currently the President of the Portuguese Association of Art Historians.
